The reaction to our Yaesu safe* DVI/HDMI adapter was so incredible that we had to hold shipping for a short period. They are now back in stock and ready to ship again.
It is a simple DVI/HDMI adapter adapted to prevent damage to Yaesu radios that do not react appropriately to some monitors or TV 5VDC voltage sources.

The monitor feature on your radio is designed to use DVI-D to DVI-D monitors. DVI-D converters can be used but with this caution, some aftermarket converters have voltages that exceed 5v and this can cause the 150mA internal protection fuse on the radio’s main board to blow causing the radio to be returned to Yaesu for service.
Here are some Yaesu suggestions that I hope will help you avoid a future problem:
* Note please that the term YAESU SAFE is our naming of the products; it does not in any way mean that our DVI/HDMI adapter will protect your monitor or YAESU radio from ALL possible causes that may damage it. Our DVI/HDMI adapter is designed to prevent improper 5VDC usage from the monitor to get to the radio. There are MANY other issues in a Ham Radio shack that could damage your radio, such as improper RFI filtering and shielding, improper station grounding, and improper power sources management and filtration, to name just a few. They should all be looked at before operating any Ham Radio Stations. VE2DX Electronics Design Inc. will NOT take responsibility for any damage to any equipment while using this device unrelated to the above-mentioned issue, as explained by Yaesu Support.
Well! Yes, using a fiber optic link between your radio and the monitor, IN THEORY, is an excellent solution to isolate your YAESU radio from your monitor... Suppose they were ONLY fiber optic (thus plastic!). In that case, yes, but... The PROBLEM is that these cables are NOT only fiber optic they are HYBRID cables made of fiber optics and wires (See Image), if you look at the picture to your left (Source: Amazon), you will see that the cable is made of BOTH fiber optics and standard wires.
Because it is NOT only fiber optic, but instead a hybrid cable made of Fiber Optics and wires, then;
- RF can still be a problem.
- Are these cables equipped with fiber optic transceivers (and they likely are!) at each end, and do they need to be powered from somewhere? If it is from the source (RADIO!), they could also be a problem since this is what the Yaesu support email talks about.
According to Tim Factor, KT7F Technical Support, Assistant Customer Service Manager, Yaesu Support, on March 20th, 2024, the main issue is related to TVs, Monitors, and adapters using the 5VDC coming from the YAESU radio, damaging the internal PCB-mounted protection in the radio.
We can not protect your YAESU radio from ALL possible issues, but our approach addresses a KNOWN ISSUE, the 5VDC problem as described in the YAESU Support email above! By simply bypassing the 5VDC source from the radio, we prevent any external load from damaging your YAESU radio
